Including Virginia peak, out by my property.

Though if it does dry out a bit Brenda will let me out for some cragging rick.

Say, why don't they mix CES with Comic Con? It'd be total nerdvana!

I'm hoping the Sierra wrings the approaching hammer of God cloud mass dry to the point they only give a meager dusting to ranges east. A foot or less, followed by a period of sunshine and we're good to go Jonny.

I agree. So far it's really been no more than a dusting out here that melts off in a day or two. We had some snow this morn, now just mud. Still snow up high, but locales east and low maybe more dry still. I wouldn't try any Playa driving on a bet though.

The key is when the cold air arrives to lower the snow levels on Sunday.
NOAA:

Snow levels begin to rise Saturday afternoon/evening as deeper
moisture and warm air arrive. Snow levels are expected to climb to
7000-8000 feet Saturday night when the heaviest precipitation
arrives and peak Sunday-Sunday night when snow levels could reach
9000-9500 feet. There is an increasing flood threat for creeks,
streams and urban areas as latest model simulations continue to show
8+ inches of QPF along the Sierra crest, 5-8 inches in the Tahoe
Basin, and 2-5 inches along the eastern Sierra Saturday night
through early Monday. As far as mainstem rivers, timing of the
arrival of colder air on Monday will dictate the potential as models
vary from late Sunday night to Monday afternoon. In addition, we
will have to wait and see what kind of snow totals we get with the
ongoing storm as fresh snow will have capacity to absorb some of the
rainfall this weekend. All interests along small creeks and mainstem
rivers should monitor the forecast very closely as we get closer
to the weekend.

Snow totals above 8000 feet may be quite large (3-6 feet) depending
on how high the snow level eventually rise. Snow to liquid ratio
will be rather low for this event, roughly 6-8:1, certainly some
avalanche concerns and difficulties for those that have to
remove/shovel in the high elevation communities around Mt Rose and
Mammoth Lakes.

Forecast for the Tahoe area above 8000 feet. (who wants to ski below 8000 ft anyway?)
http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/rev/avalanche/
Up to 2 feet of snow from now through tomorrow.

Sierra Avalanche Center has Red advisories for all locations.

At the bottom of the page are some interesting (compelling) observations from yesterday.

Meanwhile it's also snowing buckets at Kirkwood.

"Divine Anatomy"

this storm is the hammer of the gods

this storm will bludgeon California

this storm will have smitten Nevada and some parts of Arizona before it goes on to lambaste Utah

this storm, while not beating the Band, who have long disbanded and begun dying off,
will devastate the field at the battle of the bands coming up in Aurora Crater this Sunday

(but it may have been last Sunday - I'd better check my calendar)

also, this storm, while not having the "oomph" to challenge the Rolling Stones,
let alone actually appear on the same stage with them
(can you IMAGINE the RUSH? the paralyzing STAGE FRIGHT of such an EXPERIENCE?),
seems good enough for the likes of Kansas, where it is sure to kick ass

this storm, given the fact that we have been in a drought for a long time, may seem like the coming of spring in the high country to some, but i would not trust it

weathermen all lie like dogs (no offense, Fido)

few can tell a rainmaker from a shaman (it's the umbrella, fool!)

as a rule, they don't like rainbows, mistreat unicorns, and have no appreciation of climbing in the British Isles

and any god in his right mind would use no hammer, and not just because he or she has no need,
except for that Thor guy, who only carries old Mjolnir cuz he likes to bust sh#t up,
but because it's the right thing weather one is in one's right mind or not

The weekend forecast SUCKS for skiers, especially the 9500 freezing level Sunday. It is better than drought however.

Global warming in effect.

from http://opensnow.com/dailysnow/tahoe :
Saturday we initially start as all snow as a strong storm moves in. Snow levels quickly rise to 7000 feet during the morning and then 8000 feet during the afternoon. Heavy rain and snow continue through Monday. Snow levels rise to 9000 feet Saturday night. They may peak around 9500 feet Sunday morning. Sunday night snow levels fall to 8000 feet, and then to lake level Monday morning.

and from http://www.sfgate.com/bayarea/article/Yosemite-s-Merced-River-threatens-to-spill-its-10835812.php

The river that flows through fabled Yosemite Valley is expected to overflow its banks during this weekend’s storms, rising even higher than it did during the devastating flood of 1997.

Forecasters with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration predicted that the Merced River would surge to a level of 23.7 feet, about a half a foot higher than it did 20 years ago when the river flooded a valley hotel and other facilities, causing an estimated $176 million damage.
