I'm sorry to hear of Bunkster's passing, SC.

A good dog seems to magnify all of life's joys, but they always leave us too soon.

Just lost my Bunk (couple posts above yours); It's eating me alive...I believe Walter and Bunk will meet up...how could they not with their rememberances ending up on the same page! Hugs to you .... I suspect we would be dousing each other in our tears. All the memories...

I've been a mess most of the day, self-medicating as required to avoid an emotional meltdown. The only positive thing I can say about this experience, is I've been thru it once before with my half Golden Retriever/Irish Setter Rusty, when he died I cried for the first time since I was 10 years old (about 30 years gap) and so I have lived the process. It's one we sign up for when we take them on as partners and soul mates, cause you're right, Walter was that to me

for the love of dog

Thank you for reposting that poem, I hadn't seen it before, but it's sums up my feelings to a T.

A working dog, in action:

She's "standing guard" over my stuff while I was off taking pictures at the Mukilteo Lighthouse.

Nobody ever bothers my stuff! Two cameras, two kites, my Safari Vest ( containing my wallet, phone, camera, monocular, and and everything else I need to carry ), as well as my lunch are guaranteed to remain intact for as long as I need to leave it.

Her real job is public relations. Numerous groups of lighthouse enthusiasts stopped to pet her and scratch her belly while I was off flying the kite.

But for every dog gone, there's another one out there who would like nothing better
in the world than to share our life too, if we let them.

What a beautiful dog. I lost my yellow girl on July 28th....her ST pic is a few back from Sandy. A beautiful tribute to Sandy to run forever where she/he loved.

Yes, there are buds looking for that 2nd chance. Since I am not able to adopt for awhile due to an upcoming several month sailing cruise I have looked into fostering through Golden Gate Lab Rescue. They are desperate for foster families and the typical foster stay is only about a week...that works perfectly so heavy duty attachment and bonding (typically by the human) doesn't happen and you foster when your schedule allows. Just losing my girl at the end of July I wasn't sure if I was emotionally ready but the fostering situation sounded very good. I can support an animal in their transition from rescue to forever home and give back all the love my girl gave me and then when I'm back in one place I can be a forever home again.

Agreed. A good Dog needs attention. Good of you to acknowledge that.
I listen to the puppy cry in the neighbor's yard all day long.
He's not a bad dog-just lonely.
