My good friends dog just had eleven pups yesterday. Pitbull Cane Corso mix. Mom is the Pit. My wife and I are going to adopt the smallest male we can find. I've only owned labs, should be an adventure! Anyone have experience with this mix of breeds? Both have bad reputations, but it seems to me that training is the key to everything. At least, training has been everything with the last two dogs I've raised.

You might want to read the recent story about the woman who raised two pitbulls from puppies and was then attacked a week or so ago by the same dogs when they were out walking. THer father and the police found her partially eaten.

I heard an anecdote about that, got a link?

Edit; I'm more concerned about the mastiff part of the mix than the pit.

Poor pupper started to get swelling on side of face yesterday.

Went to vet yesterday, got started on antibiotics, no definitive Dx. No apparent broken tooth etc.

Today, worse :(. Back to the vet, this time exam under anesthesia.
Like most dogs her affect is still wonderful, wants to play but doesn’t want that side of her face touched. I’m wondering spider bite? Cracked tooth that couldn’t be seen (unusual for a 7 month old). Well hopefully today’s exam will give a definitive Dx and a Tx plan.

Of course I haven’t been able to feed her because of possibility of anesthesia .... how “joyful” to withhold breakfast from a 7 month old puppy, a Lab at that. At least she’s hungry and drinking water.

Dogs are so damn stoic. Just amazing.

Susan

Edit. Had to have a loose molar pulled. Either didn’t come in correctly or chewed on something incorrectly. Probably a sleepy girl tonight.

Good news on the fix, Susan. Poor pup.

Other good news! Me and BAd Wife are going to meet and almost certainly take this boy home on Sat. Can't wait! Nervous and excited about the new crew member. We lost dear Django back in Feb. I think we're ready for a new buddy.

Patches:

Hell’s Bells. You could hire yourself out! I’m impressed.

We got there but it took awhile. It’s funny how once that’s over it kinda becomes a distant memory, like “when was the last time......”. And just hope there’s no more accidents.

She’s beautiful. Cuddly fur baby with the crazy cold you guys are having.

PS Teddy is “back to normal”. Face looks totally normal but will stay on antibiotics for 9 days.

Thanks, Susan. Good news about Teddy. Our boy has been in the cone of shame for a few nights after having his boy bits removed. Not happy about it. But we may be near the end of that trauma.

This one loves a tummy rub, best attempted with a stuffy toy already in her mouth or she "nibbles" on what ever she can.
