Tuolumne Meadows, California USA | ||
|
Avg time to climb route: 3-4 hours
Approach time: 30-45 minutes Descent time: 1.5-2 hours Number of pitches: 3 Height of route: 300' Overview
Phobos is the easier, better-protected, and better-known of the two 5.9s—if there is a car at the parking area there’s surely a party ahead of you. In fact, it’s common to have three or four parties lined up for Phobos, and another party looking at, then deciding not to try, Deimos. A good strategy for Phobos, especially considering the danger from thunderstorms, is to climb something else in the morning, then hike up around noon (assuming no clouds are forming) and climb it in the afternoon. Photos
