Overview
This is one of the most popular snow and ice climbs in the Sierra. It is relative close to the Tioga Road/ Highway 120 with a moderate approach and straight-forward logistics. This is a great intro to snow and ice climbing or a great advanced ski or snowboard descent. The route is very conditions dependent. In the spring it can be an easy walk up or ski down. In the summer the snow firms up and may be completely gone in sections. If the conditions are too warm, it can have lousy snow conditions and lots of falling rocks. See the photos below to see the variable conditions and be sure to get the latest conditions info before heading up.
