Bay Area Bouldering, California, USA
Approach time: 5 minutes
Season: Year Round Number of problems: 55 Type of rock: Blue and Green Schist Overview
The Sunset Boulders at Goat Rock State Park lie in a quiet pasture overlooking a peaceful stretch of beach off the side of the Pacific Coast Hwy. The rocks are close enough to the ocean that you can hear waves crash and far enough from the road to forget about it. A secluded beach is close by and provides a nice place to have a picnic, take a walk, and play in the sand. That’s if you are willing to hike down the steep hill from the boulders. These rocks were the first climbing area on the Sonoma Coast and the first place where myself and a lot of other local climbers took off our harnesses and bouldered for the first time.
